Price/Performance, which is best?

Going from an X800XT to an X1800XT would be an incredible upgrade. I went from an X800 GTO² 256MB (@ X850XT-PE) to an X1800XT 256MB earlier this year and was utterly blown away.

As LoadsaMoney would say; If you order that X1800XT, you better order new pants along with it. ;)

Edit: Missed out the GTO bit. :o

Bugger... it seems that everybody recommends an x1800xt over a 7900GS! I should have done some research before ordering off OCUK!

Never mind - I guess the 7900GS isnt a particularly bad card, its probably miles better than the X800Pro I have in my system now.

Has anyone actually got one yet? Just wondering what sort of overclock they are getting. And as Ive got an SLi mobo, in the future is it possible to add any brand 7900GS to the one Ive ordered or does it have to be exactly the same? Im guessing an SLI rig with two 7900GS`s is fantastic value for money!
 
does any one have any benchmarks of the 1800xt vs the 1900xt (256) is it worth the extra money.

I'm asking as my 7800gt just died and I need somthing to tide me over till dx10 so should I go for the 1800xt or 1900xt 256 I run games at 1280x1024?

You should state the scale used and distance as reference. Most devices will use the weighted scale dB(A) and measure SPL at a given distance. And yes 10dB is a lot more than twice as loud, its a ratio from the reference, in this case air for 0dB. As I explained to you before 10dB(A) is perceived to be twice the volume or loudness.


You haven't cited any conditions in your example. And in the picture it would be fair to assume that its the same conditions and therefore a delta of the two. Again a poor example that falls flat.

I agree with you here

To suggest that the x1800 or x1900 cooler is not noisey is just ludicrous.

They are,

all the reviews dotted about the web make this point when reviewing the cards.

The coolers suck on both the x1800 and x1900 thats why the x1950 cooler was redesigned to get rid of the noise of its predecessors.

Except Guru3D who specifically tested it, and Xbit Labs who did a gigantic entire article about cooler noise. :rolleyes:

They're saying exactly what I quoted from their results, that the X1000 cooler is about as loud as a 7900GT cooler. I.E. Nowhere as loud as people pretend they are.
