Price War?

As others have said, several places have been selling all 360 games at £39.99 or less. The purple shirt people have been doing it for a while now along with a couple of the supermarkets.
In fact, you can sometimes get games even cheaper than that with the purple shirts by using their collect at store online service. E.g. Pro Evo 6 is £34.99, Saints Row for £29.99, and all pre-ordered games are £37.99.

The reason I think this pricing hasn't become more widespread is because these are mostly out-of-town stores. If HMV start selling at under £40 then that'll start something, and actually did with Pro Evo. Both Game and GameStation were charging £49.99 for it yesterday but today it's £39.99 - obviously to better match the likes of HMV.

Hmmm..

I am not sure if I should be worried or not about a game I purchased (Splinter Cell). I brought it monday, but am not really sure if I want to keep it. Do people think I will have problems returning it monday next week? (thats the next time I am around that area)... I am not really enjoying SC that much at the moment, I had not played a SC game before so wasn't sure.

Game will lose me as a customer TBH. The only reason I shop there is in case I don't like something I can take it back, and end up keeping the games a lot of time (like DOA4, Condemned and Saints Row)

*EDIT*

Does anyone know how much their point system is worth? If you pay 50 for a 360 game, how much money is that off your next purchase?

Their returns thing is good for ten days if you bought it before the 29th - which you have. You still have ten days from date of purchase.

As for reward points, it's 2.5% or 5% on preorders.

Also, I noticed GAME have PES6 for £39.99 in store today - Apparently it's come from H/O.

Yeah I purchased 360 pes at game today for £39.99.

Tbh i've usually only ever bought games from the big supermarket nearby, they're 39.99 at most, sometimes less. Don't think i've seen a 360 game round here anywhere at £50 yet. Certainly wouldn't be buying at that price.

Seems to be raging in York atm.

Went down and saw Splinter Cell in Woolworths for £39.99 and HMV for £39.95. Went to Gamestation where it was still £49.99, asked them if they price matched and they said yes, so tried to trade in a game but they said they didn't price match and accept trade-ins... bah!
So went to Game, again asked if they price matched and the conversation went...

"What game?"
"Splinter Cell, on the 360"
"How much?"
"£39.99"
"Where?"
"Woolworths and HMV"
"Sorry, that's too much difference"

So gave up on the trade-in, walked back to HMV. Handed over my reward card and she said "You've got £5 on here". So amazed, Splinter Cell from a high street store for £34.95.

They also has PES6 and Fifa 07 for £37.95 each!

That's true, i've also noticed their music and DVDs have generally gone down in price. I'm not sure they are in trouble though. I think they just realise they now have to compete with the online stores as well as local competitors such as Virgin, Woolies, MVC etc.

2.5 MEASLY percent??? thats why I got a few games the other day and I ended up with like 2 pounds 50P on my reward card :/

I am going to be taking splinter cell back almost on principle now, and will buy it from a cheaper store I think :/

I preorder all my stuff, so that's 5%, and I go through quidco so that's another 5%.
