Prices ever expected to fall?

Hey peeps,

As per title. I need a 32gb kit and it's shaping up to cost more than the CPU and motherboard together, which hurts... Are we likely to see better supply lowering prices in the near future, or is it going to continue on the up from here?

Appreciate some shakes of the magic 8 ball ;)

I'm sure prices will fall at some point, demand for smartphones has driven DRAM prices up this year though that can't last forever. Judging when prices will fall - that's trickier. Out of interest i looked at the price of the DDR4 i got last year. The price has risen by £130! Ouch.

Yeah, it's really taking the mick right now :/ Then again I really could do some more processing power, might just have to take the hit unless there's a drop in the next couple of weeks x(
 
I feel for ya bud. In truth i doubt DRAM prices will drop much (if at all) this year but i could be completely wrong. It's been known to happen.
 
Could go for Avexir 32GB kit for £211? Or else go used and check the popular auction site, thats where I picked up my Trident Z 3200Mhz 4x4GB for 70 quid.

You're both right that I could pick up something slower for ~30% less... however Ryzen does seem to prefer faster memory, and I'm in it for the upgrade path so I'd rather get the best stuff available at the time of buying and have it last me through several years :) If I have to pay the premium then so be it, but I'd hate to do it on the eve of a massive price drop :P
 
It'll be interesting to see if Threadrippers quad channel will negate the need for expensive RAM. Could make the platform even more interesting/economical.
 
30% cheaper?

I've not seen prices lately but, at OCuk I bought 64Gb of TeamGroup 3000Mhz DDR4 ram at the start of march, for less than that 32Gb 3600 kit.
 
I reckon DDR4 will drop in price but you'll be waiting 18-24 months for it to happen, when DDR5 is the close to coming manufactures will want to cash in on DDR4 before it's too late, it happened with DDR3.
 
No memory prices actually increased today.

To save some £££ if you dont need 32gb go 8Pack 3200mhz kit.

£100 more but with 8 cores its more future proofed. keep costs lower drop to 16GB Ram

also curious why Avexir ram prices seem to be significantly lower than the rest? using worse quality ram dies? maybe someone can confirm

They have gone bust (lifetime warranty with OcUK still) and our stock was purchased months ago.

Though we do follow price trends irrelevant of what our stock cost we can keep the price of Avexir competitive relative to other brands.

But memory prices will continue increasing for the remainder of year and next no doubt. It's also probably gonna get far worse before it gets better too as a Micron fab went down today. So now all manufacturers are refusing to ship any orders for a few days until they have evaluated the impact on market and adjust pricing up as necessary.

I regularly see 20-24gb in use. Blame the graphics programs, but 16 is just not enough for my typical usage :/

I would, but I'm really starting to suffer on this old rig now :( It's stump up for new kit, or pay some extortionate price for an old i7 to slot into this one, and I would hate to give someone the satisfaction of selling me a 2nd hand 3770k for the original shelf price! Prices of used sandy/ivy i7s are just disgusting, imho.

Unless all you do is watch some movies and browse the internet you really need to start thinking about 16GB now though, I frequently go over it when gaming.

EDIT: When I say I frequently go over it when gaming I meant over 8GB not 16GB.
