"POLISH customers can order 7900 GTX, GT and 7600GT cards today. The Gigabyte chaps in Poland jumped the gun and informed its big etailer about its cards.

They listed GeForce 7900 GTX Gigabyte 512MB ViVO & DVI (PCI-E) with a product number, GRGF79GTXGANX79X512VB for 3100 Polish Zloty, approx €821, they listed GeForce 7900 GT Gigabyte 256MB ViVO & DVI (PCI-E) product number GRGF79GTGANX79T256DB for 1449 Zloty including VAT, approximately €384 and the last but not the least GeForce 7600 GT Gigabyte NX76T256DB-RH 256MB TV & DVI (PCI-E) product number GRGF76GTGANX76T256DB for 869 Zloty, some €230. You can preorder your cards here, here and here.

The site claims that the cards will be available on the 8th of March, just a day before Cebit but we think it maybe be a day or a few later than that.

Just before we are ready to file this, another reader from Belgium this time informed us about Point of View cards listed at its distributor. This listed Pe16 GeForce 7900GTX 512DDR3 TV/Out 2DVI 2VGA Video SLI No Games POV card for €492.72 including VAT, Pe16 GeForce 7900GT 256DDR3 TV/Out 2DVI 2VGA Video SLI for €293.00 including VAT and Pe16 GeForce 7600GT 256DDR3 TV/Out 2DVI 2VGA Video SLI POV for €197.70 including VAT.

This confirms that we got the prices right and that 7900 GTX won't cost more than €499, will be priced around 7900 GT €299 while 7600GT will be priced at sub €199. A very few mysteries remain but we do need some numbers before these cards are out next week"
 
I didn't realise they were coming out so soon (if those sources are correct), but i'm still holding off for the new G80 card, as im not sure i'll see much of an improvement over my 7800GTX @ 1280x1024... :(

that the big questions. IMO the industry are rattling out card after card just to top the competition. It better not be the Geforce 5 scenario all over again :(
 
When the jump from geforce 4 to 5, it wasn't as big of a leap in performance as lead to beileve at the time. They practically released the 4 series and then after good number of months the 5 was released.

(Probably get slated for this is) but the general consensus was that the 5 series ended up with a lower then expected increase in performance compared to the solid Geforce 4x00 series which as said was pretty much disappointing. IIRC the 5 had a few hiccups or issues as well (which i cannot remember the exact details) but i am sure the 5 owners will clarify if i am wrong.

That why when the 6x00 series came out it was a good jump and kinda met up to expectatiion as it was built from scratch and made a entirely new chip/card etc.

It was a mistake at the time as they released the 5 as a marketing ploy imo rather than a proper advancement in gfx products.

Yeah, the FX series were just DX9 GF4's with virtually no performance increase. Infact, sometimes lower performance.

The GF4 Ti's could quite easily batter most of the FX range...which were just pants. I had one, and I wished I didn't :p. I almost bought a 9800XT but then came the X800 and the rest as they say is history.
