I know Primark's been around a while but I've never been to one properly. I shop at the usual high street shops; Topman, Zara, H&M etc nothing fancy.

However after paying 15 odd quid for 5 pairs of socks and them ripping all the time I decided to give Primark a go.

I couldn't quite believe the prices; £5 for five pairs of sock. Chunky knit sweaters which would cost £30 in Zara for £9. Jackets which would easily cost £60 in Next for £30. V-Neck jumpers for £5. T-shirts for £2. Chinos for £10.

I was in quite literal disbelief while walking around. So, what's the catch? Terrible quality? Will they be ruined after a few washes? I came out with just the socks lol.

Lower quality, massive bulk buying power and sweat shops that make the other sweat shops look like top quality employment.

I usually buy the cheap plain T-Shirts. Slim fit for £2.50!! thank you very much

some are fantastic and still fit the same after many washes....however, some shrink massively. No idea why some do, and some don't. They are the same material. Weird!

The catch is having to shop with degenerate scummy plebs who think that tracksuits are decent attire and because they have a pram that everyone else must bend their lives around them. A McFlurry is one of your five a day and feeding McDonald's cheeseburgers to your two year old child is a perfectly acceptable lunch.

I hate Primark. With a passion. Shame really as there are some good deals but the typical clientele make me want to claw my eyeballs out.

Nothing really wrong with the clothes from there for general everyday use.

I've got jeans, t-shirts and shorts from there because when you have kids you get muddy, dirty, covered in god knows what.

As above though, it attracts the lower quality humans who think it's perfectly acceptable to look at something and throw it on the ground.

One changing room which I reckon they do so people just buy something in the hope it will fit.

I have a jumper from there which must be nearly 10 years old and it's still fine. We also bought some bathroom hand towels and face cloths about the same time and use them every day (must have been washed 300 times and still look great).

You do generally get what you pay for but then if a t-shirt is £2.50 and lasts half as long as a £20 t-shirt then you've still saved £7.50!

Personally I buy Fruit of the Loom t-shirts from Amazon - better quality, although buy a size bigger as they seem to reduce a size after a couple of washes. Around same price as Primark ones.

When kids are a bit older we'll go to one and get their seasons wardrobe in one hit.

Primark is expensive now to how it use to be 7 years ago. I know that's not saying much but i remember when i first went in one years ago and spent £60 i bought so much stuff i had to buy a new wardrobe lol.

i have noticed the quality of the materials they now use have gone down or just got a lot thinner.
i think they sell short design life clothing now, for cheap in the hope you keep buying replacements...

although i wish they would bring back the old clothing sizes, im pretty sure high street shops think the whole nation has shrunk or something with all the skinny fit styles and no waists over 36".....

I wouldn't even say the quality is lower than other high street brands. It is all the same now in terms of quality for normal shops. Other shops are marketed for a style or age group and charge slightly more because of it. Primark is marketed as good value (rather than cheap) and practical to shop at. Though their margins are much lower, i would imagine they sell far more stock and have much less left over when the item is replaced by another next season.

It is a shame that very little there is my sort of thing.

The quality is pretty poor but now you have other chains bringing their quality down to try and compete. The shoes fall apart with a few wears. Stick to the t-shirts, hoodies, socks and underwear.

I go £12 for 7 pairs of socks in M&S - don't buy much else in there but they last 3x as long as the cheaper ones and far more comfortable.

Quality has totally fallen out at some places - I used to use Burton a fair bit years ago but now its all silly thin material and barely last a few months.

Primark will be right up for 90%of overclockers members, since it would cut into the pension fund if you bought expensive clothes :D

Primark I find hit and miss to be honest but I do shop there a lot for myself and the kids general wear. For the nicer outfits I go to next for the kids stuff.

I would say my personal outfits are 90% Primark and Asda George range :o

My sporting wear I like under amour and decent running trainers due to all the mileage from cardio.

To many people I know buy based on a brand or brands and pay though the nose for something basically the same standard. Of course there are examples of brands which are better but I would say most are around the same standards and if you don't wear stuff for all that long you aint saving anyways.

Some brands are **** I was browsing jeans the other day - some of the top designer labels really weren't great quality - far inferior in both design and materials to the Wranglers I was wearing yet in some cases 10 or even 20 times the price.

I find the volcanoes of clothes amusing.

I also like the person who goes round with the massive 2 metre wide broom who goes around collecting anything that has fallen on the floor.

I agree had a pair of diesel jeans fall to bits on me after like 9 months where as I have a pair of Asda jeans still going great after 7 years :o Price difference I think was like ten times the amount for the diesel jeans :p

Get a personal shopper then you never have to set foot in the place :-)
