Primary/secondary IDE channel problem

I'm building a new PC out of old parts, though the problem is that the primary IDE channel on the mobo is borked: only the second one works. Given that I want to use one hard drive and one optical drive, is it possible to run them both off the same channel? Could I, in effect, slave the optical drive off the IDE drive?

yup, that'll be fine.

The only thing you will notice is a slowdown when reading DVD and writing to HD using the same channel. It can slow the hard drive down quite a bit.

Thanks for that. I don't think both will be happening simultaneously much, so it looks like it should be ok.
