Hi i oc my cpu and am wondering how long to run prime 95 for

So far i ran blend test 3 hours stable
and small cpu test for 3 hours stable however am gonna oc further in the near futare.

Are these times stable enough for now, for gaming etc ? can a unstable system damage harware ? or just crash all the time ?

specs [email protected] 1.5vcore
ram ocz 400mhz 1notch from stock volts
corsair 520watt psu
8800GTX stock

did u run the new multi core version or the old one ?

what temps u getting on the processor ?

main problem with a bad overclock is you can corrupt you're data, but if its that important you should have safe/quality backups of it anyway.

i tend not to bother with running long series of prime etc any more as games like bf2/2142 seem to be a better indicator of an overclock as i;ve prime'd before overnight then tried to game and it didnt like it.

if it primes for half hour then i get onto gaming.

I would still prime for 8 hours at least just to be sure. I thought my overclock was stable as it ran games fine and then my windows install got corrupted = lesson learnt :D

i;'ve run prime and the like for 8 hrs+ and still been caught out by bf2 and 2142 ;)

I would go for 3.3 same v core, test for a few hours. If ok, go for 3.4, if it fails go back down and test for longer.

1.5v seems a little high for 3.2, check out EASYRIDERS Q6600 thread for some prime stable clocks.

Sorry to hijack this thread. Just a really quick (n00b) question about prime95. How do you get it running so it reports the time to the left of each test so it says [Timehere] Test1, 4000 lucas etc etc?

Does anyone else think its too high for 3.2 ghz.before i start changing it ive seen people run a q6600 at 3.0ghz at 1.4vcore tho .

Is it true that as long as tempertures are low and not to high "atm they are near 60c at load" then its not that much of a problem and not harming the cpu rapidly ?

Also i have a Gigabyte p35-DQ6 mobo with a q6600(not go) would that have much of a vdrop ?

quick question what is the max safe vcore you can safely put though a q6600 (not go) ?

thanks

cant say whether its too high for 3.2 as all processors can vary, long as the temps are ok it will be fine.

the most i've seen mentioned vcore wise is 1.55/1.6, that was on water cooling.

as mentioned try and test 3.3/3.4 if you havent already.

What is the version number etc of the multicore version, downlaod link ? Can't see any mention of it on mersenne website

cant confirm as im not on my home pc but think it was something like V2.5.3.

opps typo on my behalf:O
these are the notches on my mobo
1.3350 vcore tried failes prime in a few minutes
1.3475 vcore ill try again
1.3500 vcore

Did you mean 1.55 vcore or 1.355 sorry confused ?

Is upping the fsb voltage a notch a good idea to achive stable system ?

What bios option is the north bridge ?

thanks

meant 1.55 under water 1.4/1.45 on air.

yeah as long as you keep check on temps if an overclock fails go up a notch and see if that helps.

Rome 89, in pime, make sure you go to the ADVANCED tab and enable ROUND OFF CHECKING.

The northbridge option is the HCH OverVoltage Control.

Mine is 8hrs stable @ 3.2 with 1.431v in bios, i am testing again with lower v core.

Failed after 3hrs with 1.4:(

This is on a P35C-DS3R.

Wouldn't worry to much about the volts, as long as your temps are ok.
