I hear loads of people saying their rig is prime stable etc but what i want to know is how they know its stable? Is it after 6 hours of priming no errors?

How long should you aim to stress your pc with prime to test an overclock?

more like 12+ at the least.

for the final check once youve finished your OC, you really want to do a 48hr short fft and then a 48hr large fft.

12 is fine for testing voltage/freq/timing changes when youre ramping up the speed, and you dont have to do it every change.

Usually i run 1hr every other change and a 12hr overnight every 100-150MHz.

if it doesnt pass final 48hr, that only means youre going to get problems later on.

If Prime is going to fail, it will often do so in the first few minutes, generally at least within the first hour. If it works flawlessly for say, 6-12 hours without a problem, then it could suggest that you have overheating problems within the case.

I beg to differ, I have the kind fo watercooling that few can even get a hold of, and my 170 will fail @ 2.8GHz, 1.35v after 8-9hrs and pass 48hr @ 1.375.

Load temps never go past 39c either way.

I don't really bother too much with prime tbh. Mine falls over within a minute, yet I have been running it at those settings for months, using games, Photoshop, Browsing etc with no crashing at all.

I think 48hrs is overkill.

12hrs prime is more then enough error free to warrant a stable system

Probably 12 is too.

I usually OC until it fails, Knock back 5 on the fsb/Htt, Run Prime 95 for 1-2 hours. Might not get the last ounce of OC out of them system but its stable and a quick method.

Have to agree 48hrs is too much.Never primed for more than 24hrs. usually just do round about 12hrs,that's allways worked fine for me

What watercooling do you have that's hard to get hold of mate ?

Prime 12hrs is ample for the average user imo although if you run intensive programs that rely on uber accuracy then a longer session 'could' be used. You can however go on forever...I mean if its 48 hours stable whats to say it won't fail in 49 hours?

24hrs for me, once forgot a PC priming for 4 months, talk about stable :D Had it downstairs behind the TV and used remote desktop to access it, mostly though i accessed files and not the actual remote desktop, one day i had need to access it via remote desktop and saw the red prime94 icon, my poor psu :D

Personally I use something like a auto GK a divX converter, It will find any weakness and at least you will or will not as the case may be have a pretty Movie to watch at he end ;)
