when i run prime65, on stock cooler and not oc'd, normally within a minute, few seconds i see 1 if not 2 of the windows indicating that my cores have failed? cant imagine this to be normal?

any hints

Failing stress testing at stock settings usually indicates a hardware problem, the most common being overheating. Second on the list is ram errors, suggest you run memtest (from a cd, not from within windows) and look for things highlighted in red. If there are any such errors it's pretty likely you have bad ram, and should test the sticks individually.

Failing prime but passing memtest would be interesting, we'll cross that bridge if we come to it :)

okily dokily, ran memtest as suggested, and unsurprisingly it threw up errors. went in to bios and changed memory settings to auto, i had to originally select X.M.P (xtreme memory proflie i think) to get the ram to run at its full speed (1600mhz) on auto ito nly runs 1066. anyhoooo now that its back to aut,o prime95 and memtest run fine with no failures/errors. is there anyway to get the ram to run at its full speed without casuing the original problems?

did you change the voltage for the xmp profile or does it do that for you, unsure on your bios but think you might need to set voltage manually

apologies, only realised i'd posted this thread in the ocing and cooling section! restarted in memory thread-as that seems to be where the problem lies
