I had ran prime95 for 24 hours non-stop overclock @ 4Ghz as temperature is quite good at just 71c, 71c, 69c, 69c as 2 x fans at the rear back is only 900rpm with 2 fans (push-pull) on the Prolimatech Megahalems cpu cooler also set at 900rpm with my nzxt sentry lx double deck lcd meter fan controller.

Congrats bro.. sounds like a stable setup to me.. Whats your bios settings for the 4.0 GHZ please. I am getting 3.6 as vcore 1.2500 and dimm voltage: 1.54 cpu multi is 21 and the bclck is 171 .. all seems stable and normal temps are 37-40 whilst load temps are 67-68 .. I am happy with this but would like to have 4.0GHZ or will it not really make much of a difference in normal use? Thanks

Amazing, well done m8 stable for 24 hours is impressive, thing is how did you do it with only 1.18v? normally it requires about 1.25-1.28v to get 4ghz!

Very nice overclock, but 24hrs of Prime 95?

Useful for showing your computer can calculate Mersenne Prime numbers, but there is still a bucketload of other testing you need to do to make sure your computer is usable.

It might crash the first ten minutes into a game...

Too many people look at Prime 95/Orthos as the first and last word in stability testing. It isn't.

Dont worry mate thats all bulldog does runs stress tests all day, he just need to know hes pc has not lost stabilty since last week ;)

Christ some people are never happy.

I doubt many would even contemplate running prime95 for 24hrs most I would hazard a guess at run it for less.

How many stress testing programs and loops do you suggest for stability...?

I wonder how many stock systems i.e Dells and the like would even pass 1hr of Prime or IBT before shutting down? Yes, this is overclocked my point being this appears rock solid so please educate me on how it might crash in the first 10 minutes?

It's perfectly capable of crashing ten minutes into a game despite your 24 hour prime stable benchmark. This is just one benchmark. Yes it would strongly suggest that your CPU is stable...at calculating Mersenne Prime Numbers. People often find they need to back up Prime with other benchmarks as they stress in different ways. You might find that certain games under certain conditions exhibit problems, or that your ram is unstable at that clock, or that the machine is unstable at idle. This is not to say that your rig is not stable, it's just that prime is one benchmark and perhaps you should open your mind and run an Intel Burn Test, Orthos, OCCT, a few 3d mark benchmarks and some gaming if you do game. Anyway, nice clock.

Nice, very stable. I lack the patience for that kind of stability testing though. Then again my normal use tests it as much as prime95 :p

Well, both tbh.

I've used speedstep on my core2duo and current quad rig which I like to think helps save on leccy, but I never worked it out. Got any costs? As for 24 hour prime run, a bit excessive yeah but...he only did it once. I tend to leave it running overnight and if it's still running in the morn I call that a pass.

The post wasn't directed at the OP, more the reliance by a large part of the overclocking community on Prime95 as the single point of reference for stability testing.

There is no one test for stability, in the same sense that you wouldn't judge somebody on their driving ability by only watching them drive on a motorway - you can get an idea, but that's it. And even then, it doesn't stop them having an accident.

Yeah. I've had overclocks that failed OCCT within seconds but will run prime for days if left.
