Prime95 errors - Anything to worry about?

Hi Guys,

I've been stress testing my PC before clocking to ensure its stable and when using prime 95 on a CPU and Memory stress I had an error on 2 core of my Q6600

The error was:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file

That txt file doesn't exist though and the error came after 3.5 hours or so. I also ran this before and got an error on 1 core at around the same time.

I'm currently stressing using Orthos after upping my memory voltage to 2.01 (using the +0.1 option in the bios for DDR setting. I am using a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L)

the system seems stable enough although i have been booted out of a game once or twice but I think it might be the game as its an old version of Joint Operations: Typhoon rising that i had knocking about.

So... is this anything to worry about? Is it actually a fault or a setting i might have wrong?

All help appreciated!

Regards

Lee

It has been debated many times and for a lot of people including me think that as long as it's stable in your day-to-day use then it's fine. For me if it fails orthos or prime it simply means it won't run prime, so unless you're contributing to the prime computing project I wouldn't be too worked up over it.

However it is probably the best method for stressing your overclock. See it this way, if it passes prime there is nothing else it won't run stably. And for those hard core overclockers passing prime is a must otherwise it doesn't count but each to their own really.

well, I'll only ever overclock it to 3ghz from 2.4 to be honest so as long as its stable then i'm happy.

I'm currently running orthos on a CPU only test to see if this perhaps runs better.
I have a gui version of memtest as well which i'm running to seperatly test the memory.

It means the CPU thinks 2 - 1 = 0.9999999 and not 1

If you don't do any Distributed Computing and you don't get any CTD's. BSOD's or lockups it will be fine, 3,5 hours before an error is almost 100% stable
