Prime95 fatal error

Idle vcore isn't too bad, but the droop under load is awful.

Upping the vcore is the only option, but your load temps are quite high.
 
What PSU are you using Adam?

Also what is the VID from your quad? and have you checked the frequency of your memory (i.e is it set 1:1 sync with your FSB and not on an upward divider?).

I'm guessing your PSU isn't up to snuff! :confused:
 
Its a Jeantech 600W silent artic thing that I brought from PC World in a time of despair.

I read about the frequency but couldn't find any settings in bios for it - in cpu-z it says under the memory section FSB : DRAM 4:5

No idea what the VID is?

That's the most likely the problem, without a doubt! :cool:

[edit] if it's not that change the memory dividers in BIOS so its 1:1, you are probably running the memory at a too high frequency!

No failures in prime95 atm but stopped it after about 5 mins in as temps got to 78 degrees (I'm not using stock but some thermaltake typhoon) - is this about right?
 
The VID is the default voltage and is give by Core Temp (so 1.325v for your CPU).

A 600w PSU will be more than enough for a quad at under 3ghz, even if it's not of the highest quality.

4:5 will have your memory running at 804mhz at 2.9ghz, so it's grand providing you have set it to the 2.1v I mentioned in the first couple of posts.
 
Yeh its defo at 2.1V.

Where are you taking the VID from?

In my first post the vcore taken from cpu-z is after upping the vcore myself in bios.
 
Ok mate, so currently im sitting at 2.87Ghz and as stated above it got a bit too hot for my liking (78C) when running prime95 so I ended up stopping it. Do these temps seem about right to you? After all its not on the stock heatsink but a quite nice looking aftermarket heatsink (Thermaltake Typhoon).
 
They're on the high side for the speed and voltage, tho I've no experience with that heatsink. But I would expect even the stock heatsink to give lower temps that you're getting.

I may have ago a reseating that heatsink as I may have knocked it in my recent cleanup of the inside of the case.

Parting words, be mindful your PSU is a suspect, um also your temps seem to not be helping.

If in doubt and running out of patience, remove the overclock and start again, test the system at stock, observe temps, take some notes then increase overclock, rinse and repeat using 30mins mini primes and maybe a quick bit of gaming to test, see where you get approx before prime fails.
