Prime95 Hardware Fail. :(

Hey guys,

I have had my new PC for less than a week and already I'm having problems. :( I have an intel core i5 2500K and in the BIOS I OC'ed to 4.3GHz. On full load, temps are max 68C.

After 40 odd mins of testing with Prime95 worker#4 fails. :( What can I do? I did run intelburntest for 20 runs and it passed that. I'm guessing that wasn't long enough though.

Unless I did something wrong in the BIOS to cause this... I am a complete newbie at OC'ing and just followed a youtube tutorial to do it. I really need some help. Am I going to have to get the CPU replaced?! :L

LOL

you don't need to replace your cpu, Prime failing is just a sign that you prolly don't have enough volts going through the chip for your overclock, try downclocking to 4.2Ghz and run prime again

what are you volts for instance? and what cooling

You don't need to get it replaced, that is perfectly normal. You just need to increase the voltage and you should be fine.

Seriously? I was getting really worried. I'm using an A50 cooler and volts = 1.272v. :(

I don't know how far I can increase the voltage without frying the chip. Is 75C safe for the CPU? Also whenever I set the vcore to fixed it will not remain the same when stress testing.

That is fine. In actual fact with those volts, you are doing well. Just increase them by one notch in the BIOS and it shouldn't fail again. Then you just need to raise the multiplier again until it fails and then increase the volts again.

Something to do with VDroop? Just tried chaning the BIOS again. CPUZ read 1.30v and then under load the voltage dropped to 1.288v. My mobo is Asrock Z68 PRO3 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard. :(

I thought this was going to be pretty easy but I'm having a lot of problems tbh. I don't know what I'm doing really. Should I enable LLC? I've heard about high voltage spikes though etc. ;L

Since you are a beginner, just leave PLL, LLC etc at Auto. The only thing you need to worry about at the moment is the VCore.

I can't get my CPU to be stable setting the vcore in the BIOS to even 1.35v for 4.2GHz. It will run at this voltage idle but under load it will drop quite a bit.
