Well one person answered it I think, and gave a response that I agree with. He was in the wrong whichever way it's looked at. Even if she was of legal age, he was 40, she was 17, and he rodgered her via a power dynamic brokered by a pedo. The easy answer is absolutely yes in the vast majority of native UK people, nobody is going to be happy about a hyper-privileged middle aged man having sexual relations with a mid teen.

I'd call out any 30-40 + year old for diddling a technically "legal age" UK girl, let alone a literal aristocrat that's supposed to represent the country in a positive light.
