Print PDF from Windows to printer on Ubuntu

Recently took the step of getting a HP microserver and have installed Ubuntu server on it. Added samba so can get access from my PCs, connected printer to it and set that up. Everything seems to work - can print from Word or Firefox on PC to the printer attached to microserver ... only problem is that if I want to print out a PDF from inside Adobe Reader nothing happens. (N.b. when printer was connected to an elderly Seagate Netcenter was no such issue!)

Done lots of googling and found various comments about problems with Adobe Reader and network printers but none of the suggested fixes I've found so far make any difference.

Anyone else had the same problem and/or know of a solution?

Does it print from another reader such as Foxit reader?
No, just tried that and foxit is the same. Looking at the logs on the cups server then there's no record of the print job reaching the cups system from Adobe Reader or Foxit but is if I print test page from windows or print from firefox etc.

N.b. I've gone back to the cups setup and deleted the printer and reinstalled it as a raw printer so that the output from the windows driver ought to go straight to the printer but it is still not responding to prints from Adober Reader or Foxit

Gone through all the Samba and Cups setup again carefully checking against the Cups chapter of the Samba docs and discovered the problem. In my smbd.conf file in the

[printers]

section I had

guest ok = no

instead of

guest ok = yes

Made the change and its printing now!
