Hi Guys

I have an Epson Stylus Photo R220 printer which works fine.

We have 2 laptops as well as my desktop, and need to go wireless for printing.

Question is,do I get a Print Server,or a Wi-Fi printer?

Don't know anything about Print Servers so,how would I connect it up?

Which one would I choose?

Many thanks

Alan

If you leave your PC on most of the time, you could just connect it to the PC and share it across the network (assuming you have a wireless router already). The only downside is that you need to have the PC on for the laptops to be able to print, but it means you don't need to buy anything extra.

An alternative would be to buy a USB Network Printer Server box, which connects the USB to a RJ45 so you can plug the printer straight into a router and share it across the network. Does the same job as above but means it is independent so you don't need a system left on for it to work.

All you need to do is attach the printer to the desktop and share it. However, that would mean no printing without the desktop PC switched on. Another method is to use a NAS which offers a printer service, not only gives you the printing solution but also some useful shared storage space. I have an Epson 220 attached to my own QNAP so I know it works.
