OK here is the deal:

6 laptops networked to a 7th that has a printer connected to it. The printer is shared using Windows File and Print Sharing. This however seems to have a maximum of 5 connections allowed which means the 6th laptop to attempt to print wont work.

My thought is to use some kind of print server software to get around the 5 connections limitation. Is there any such software available for free? There is an 8th laptop available to be used a dedicated print server should that be needed.

Any ideas?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm guessing that Laptop is running XP Home as well (ergo the 5 connection limit. XP Pro has 10, and server can have as many as you're licensed for).

Best bet would be to put a linux distro on that last laptop and use samba as a print server.

Why not buy a networked print server. Stick it on the network, assign it an ip address, and set all the PC's up to print to it?

Or is it that you want all the PC's connected via a single PC with a print queue?
