I have a fairly old HP Laserjet 1005 printer that works fine on pre-Vista machines but doesn't work on Vista (no drivers for it).

Would one of those little print server boxes that you can buy for £30-50 help me out at all here?

It would also have the added bonus of making the USB printer reachable across the network from multiple machines?
 
No, they'd still need the drivers on the vista machines I'm afraid.

...and yes it'd allow anyone to print to the printer via tcp/ip :)

Your probably best off buying something that will handle Vista if thats what you want. Unless there is a comatible Vista driver somewhere for that model. Even if it is reduced functionality aslong as it can print text then suppose you would be fine.

Have you tried installing the XP driver to see if you get any functionality at all?
