Was looking around for a print server and it seems to me that I need to find one that is compatible with my printer (Epson Stylus R265). Its no longer appropriate to have it plugged into my Router using D-Link SharePort. A Print server is really the next best option next to running a comp to just print stuff.

With Shareport each PC needed the drivers installed to print to it and not some generic drivers that the router handled instead. Are print servers the same in this way?

I was looking at either the D-link DPR-1020 or a Netgear PS121, the latter of which seems to get bad reviews.

The drivers need to be installed on the local machine still. For example if no 64-bit drivers exist for a particular printer, a print server won't let you use it (unless the printer can RIP Postscript and you can use a generic Postscript driver). What problems are you having with the one built into the router?

Get a USB HP JetDirect.
Bit expensive no?

Thanks for clearing the driver issue up. Well the printer needs to be moved so its more accessible and the cat5 is already installed in the room where I intend to put it, so a print server seems the ideal option.

Belkin F5L009?

Older enterprise gear bought off eBay > consumer crap bought new

Seems to be true.

I bought a HP print server off ebay for work as a cheap solution to get a printer out of the way. Think it cost about £5. It looked like it was prehistoric when we bought it about 7 years ago, but it's still going strong and does the job just fine. :D

Have a look on the bay for the HP Jetdirect 175x Fast Ethernet Print Server...they just work and not expensive.

Hmm interesting, Im guessing the J6035 is a model code or something.

Having bought a HP Procurve as well I guess its not a bad thing to buy this print server either.

Thanks I might just get one of them :)
