Can someone recommend a good printer that is both cheap and able to take Compatables? Use would be for everyday printing, some pics, Please let me know what you think might be suitable. It is for my nephew.

Pcknight, you need to determine what is more important for you – printing text or pictures?
As I know inkjet HP printer are better in printing text and Epson printers are better in printing images. So choice is yours.

Well, i print the odd photo but more text. Be nice to have a printer that is good at both. What do you recommend guys? Are the Brother all in ones any good?

I think you can also draw attention to Epson Stylus CX4700. It printing quality (pictures) is better but Brother is better for copying and Brother's cartridge is cheaper.

I have a canon ip5200 and very pleased with it. Prints text, photos, cd's ....does the lot. It also uses seperate ink tanks so its cheaper to run than those that use all in one cartridges.

The ip4000 is no longer available. Awesome printer as is all the IP range. Inks are expensive for the later models. I have been looking at the Bother ALL-In-Ones though. What do you guys think of them? Good quality prints and cheap inks?

Either the:

Brother DCP-115C or

Brother DCP-315CN

Threre is no difference between this printers except internal memory in BROTHER DCP-315CN. So it have "Scan" button with scan to E-Mail, scan to OCR, scan to Image, scan to File or scan to Card functions. I think that button is not so important.
