printer issue 2003r2

got a random printer issue, printer keeps on going off-line and needs to be physically restarted (power on/off) then when it is on 2003 doesn't pick it up till its told to work off-line then work on-line, would a firmware update sort this or am I just clutching at straws ?

Tried newer driver versions?

its just happend as of last week and has been sitting nicely on HP's universal 6 driver (which if i remember adds a auto update function and is the most heinous of drivers)

Universal Drivers are the devil.

Is there not a dedicated model driver?

nail on the head, shame its not the last one in the coffin, there will be, just cant understand why the driver would be at fault when its worked fine for a few months .... then there's the issue of re rolling out all of the printers to everyone ....
