printer issues

hey guys
wondering if you could help me out.
when i print a text document, it comes out with a faded version overlapping it a few lines offset from the main copy. there is also always a few black smudges, always in the same place on each sheet.
its a laserjet 1010
i have done what it says to do at the bottom of this page. what else should i do?

Does it have a fuser unit? If so, it could be that which is worn. Black smudges however could mean low toner but I'm not too sure on that one. If you are getting faint overlapping text or marks it sounds like the fuser unit to me.

I'm pretty sure it would be that, we use just laserjet printers at work and if that kind of thing happens it's the first thing to be replaced. Fixes 99% of problems.

So to fix it you need to buy a new one, and I'm sure they ain't cheap either.
