Hello all,

I'm at wits end with this printer - I simply cannot get it to print anything because windows will not recognise it and I need to use it today. It's an Epson SX235W (cheap rubbish probably). I am a computer novice and have little idea what to do.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Nope that just doesn't work sadly. Just takes me to some driver installer that gives me no options to select my hardware. Urgh.

Perhaps this crappy poundland cable is faulty?

"USB device not recognised" is not a driver problem. You typically get the message "one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned". It's a hardware error.

One thing you can do is power off the computer, and fully remove power to the motherboard for several minutes. Normally you'll need to flip the switch at the wall socket. This sometimes causes USB ports to reset and can fix the error.

If this doesn't work, and especially if you get the same error on another machine, then your USB device itself is faulty. You could try a different cable, however.

There is 2 different methods to install a printer. Hardware first (connect it and see what happens) or software first (run the install CD and connect when prompted). Have you tried both methods? The software first approach is usually needed with all in one devices that scan, copy, print.
