How would I setup printer sharing on these machines.

Printer connected via USB to the actual machine, machine connected via ethernet to wireless router.

Laptop connected via wireless.

Tried a guide last night, but didn't get anywhere.

thanks

Same way you'd share a folder, go to the printer icon then right-click & select Sharing. Make sure its set to Share this printer.

Then on laptop, open My Network Places then select PC with printer. Double click on printer icon (will appear together with other shared folders) & drivers should install.

I have horrendous trouble printing this way with the XP Home clients throwing a wobbly whilst all Pro clients (Win 2K and XP) doing it fine...

Never had a problem... Both PC's (Main Wired to Router, Laptop Wireless) using XP Home!...

Have the Printer Driver Disc handy just incase the network doesn't install em properly!... My HP PSC 2555 had to be install using the CD on the Laptop and it works fine (Scanner bit don't!... but how'd you put summut in the scanner remotely to scan anyway! :D )

I know how to share the printer from the point you guys are pointing me from, but at the moment the PC and laptop are just getting their internet from the router - not actually networked together.

Tried running the networking wizard and put them on mshome work group, but no go.

They both run XP home.

Thanks for input so far :)

if its a printer with a built in network card plug it into the router then turn it on,

it will get a ip address form that,

install software/driver on one machine and choose network instead of usb,

once its installed you can then navigate to the configuration page like you would on a router by typing in the ip address in internet explorer,

and then go install the software on the other machine

I am reviving this thread in the hope you may have sorted this out and can tell me how to do so! :)

Same setup and aim.

Before sharing the printer, do *** main PC and laptop have to be networked? I would think so but don't know how to do it. COuld someone point me to an online guide or so.

I don't think my Lexmark has a network card. Both PC and laptop are firewalled.

Thanks in advance.

Just in case the OP is still in the dark, I ran "set up a home or office netwrk" wizard on both pcs. I din't have to turn off av or firewall at all. Ensure in the process that you enable file and printer sharing. Once it is set up on both pcs, just follow hp7909's instructions. It was a doddle (so far so good that is).
