Printer Usage Report?

Hi all,

Nice and easy question :D

We have a print farm with hundreds of printers. Most of which probably aren't used.

How can I run a report to list all printers which haven't been used in over a month.

I'm being hard on our user base now. If they have a printer in their office which isn't regularly used, it's coming out and they can use the one in the corridor

Thanks!

Prepare for resistance!

"I always use my printer"
"I print confidential documents"
"The one in the corridor never works"

Little more info. Are all the printers shared out via a single point or are some connected direct via USB?

What make/model are the printers? If they're predominantly HP then you can use WebJetAdmin to generate usage reports, down to how many colour vs mono pages over a certain time period.

Also, quoted for truth. Very surprising how possessive people get over a printer when there's the hint of a threat of it being taken away!

The best bit is when users complain about their printer and assert that if problems continue, they will 'reject it', not realising that their own department pays for their printers (in our place anyway) and their manager was too tight to buy them anything better, despite IT's recommendations :D
