Printer - Wrong colours coming out

I have a Canon Pixma IP4000 and we've had a lot of problems with it recently. First half the colours didn't come out (only black) and this caused ink to sit at the bottom of the print head. We tested it again yesterday and the colours are working but they're wrong. Some of the black tones come out in a purple tint. I'm trying to print onto a CD and the brown also comes out purplish :-(. I've run all the "cleaning" ultilites and have cleaned the print head but the ink still comes out purple. Has anyone got any ideas?

are you sure you are using the correct printer drivers and have the cartidges in the correct slots?

also, try using a seperate printer cable/ printer port if you are not using USB.

Driver is correct (from CD) and the cartridges are deffinetly in the right slots. I'm using USB :(

Sounds like you're running out of ink.

Sorry is this a Laser printer or inkjet?

It's an inkjet. I would replace cartridges (We have a full unopened set) but all of the current ones still have ink in them and I don't wont to open the spares to find it wasn't the problem.

Goods news. I updated the driver (had to go on the US site) and ran all the cleaning processes again and it's working again :-).

;) did sound like a driver issue.

Glad it sorted - I hate printers lol

Same here. We always seem to have bad luck with them breaking all the time, first problem we've had with this one though and hopefully the last. It's been throwing a hissy fit for a week and it's finally back up and running :p

You were using... CD drivers? Be ashamed of yourself! :p ;)

No? I was using the right drivers (from the CD that came with it) but after updating and cleaning it was working. I was trying to print onto a CD (Verbatim Full Face) that had a lot of brown colours and it was comming up pinkish
