Connected to my PC I have a Canon i865 printer, I've got the network all setup on my mac so it can access files off the pc and vice versa, the Mac can also see the printer but the Mac needs to know the make and model of the printer as it isn't listed in the printer preferences, I can select a random Canon printer from the list and it will print but for some reason black comes out grey, what setting should I use?

Hope that makes sense!

macintosh hd - applications - utlities - printer setup utlitie - more printers - choose windows from the drop down menu, and then browse to it like u *** normally add a network printer

Yeah thats how I set it up in the first place, if I leave it as a generic printer it won't print and if I pick a random Canon printer from the list it'll print grey, tried installing the canon drivers too but it didn't do anything.

Did you ever figure this out? Trying to do this too.

I'll eventually have to use an Airport along with the PC router I guess to make this work easily.

Mac printers can be a right pain, and a lot of the drivers I've found are still PPC only. They install just fine on Intel, but just don't do anything when you try and print :) Black and white lasers tend to be fine, and they will work with one of the more generic drivers, but anything a bit 'wierd' and it's very hit and miss.

hey guys, did any of you manage to sort out these problems? I can connect to the printer on my windows machine but i keep getting errors when trying to print documents. Any ideas? I think just connecting printer directly to the mac might be a simpler idea.

I have connected my MacBook to my PC in Target Disk Mode via Firewire.

Using MacDrive 7, my PC can access my MacBook's hard drive. I have not tried printing anyhting in this configuration - but it could depend on what you are trying to print?

Does the printer share name on windows contain any spaces or other strange characters? This can cause problems printing as mentioned here

If OSX does not come with a driver from your printer it may be worth installing Gutenprint (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/) and seeing if that has one.
