Hi All,
I want to print some large photos (poster size), do you think it is better to print like a poster or print onto canvas? And can anyone recommend a good company that does this?

I have a canon eos 550d and have taken some lovely photos at 18mp.

Thanks

I prefer canvases myself. Posters can look a bit tacky unless framed well whereas canvases are "good to go". The nature of the material also means that the image doesn't necessarily need to be absolutely perfectly sharp to look good - I've printed onto 20x30" in the past from a 12MP camera and it's looked great.

A few of the high street image to canvas places may have some Christmas offers on so worth checking there, else I can print them too (sig is clickable for details etc). If it's for Christmas you may struggle for delivery if you order with a large company.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but got a couple of questions.

Sadly I have a generic point'n'shoot Fuji camera and took some photos when on holiday this year.

I'd love to have some of them as a canvas in my living room, but I am worried/concerned about quality and best sizes.

My first photo is below, it is resized for the forum (the original is 4000X3000 pixels). I was thinking about cropping out the grass at the bottom, part of the right had side cliff and cropping out the white house on the right. As well as cropping to just above the mountain in the middle right section. The left side would be cropped as well to the lowest point of the land at the top.

Once it is cropped it will be around 3280X1542 (34" X 16") Am I right in thinking then I should choose the size of the canvas to be as close to 34" X 16" or would a smaller size look better with the image scaled down?

Many thanks.

those pixels and sizes mean that its at 100dpi (if my maths is working correctly)

canvas is ok at that dpi, but i wouldnt really go much less

the thing with canvas is that you dont stand that close to it when viewing it so you can get away with less dpi, but i would stick to 100

Ah cheers Paul :) that's what I was worrying about, I might drop down to a smaller canvas in that case.

I'll probably just drop the full size photo to the company and see what they recommend.
