Printing question. File Size v.s Memory used in Printer

Hi guys, im googling to no avail, does anyone know the reason why the file size of the document could be only 400k but the Printer could use 39mb of its memory to print it?

Any help appreciated!

If the document is encoded in PCL or Postscript it is only a set of insructions on how to print a document. The actual printing will require working memory.
