I fancy entering print competitions at our club. I will be printing A4 size and wondered if people used other makes of printer ink for best quality images. Canon ink will cost about £85. I know I can send the image off to a print studio and a lot in our club do that but I dont really want to wait for the result. Any thoughts?

I used to really like the print quality from my Epson XP-750 until it prematurely died. I've been looking and I'm tempted to grab the 970 model as it prints A3 and there's a number I'd like printed larger. I assume newer models are equally as good, I've seen plenty of people selling professional that appear the same level in quality.

FWIW I have 2 Canon printers (a4 and a3) and I buy the own brand ink from Cartridge People and have zero complaints with it. It registers with the printers no problem, lasts just as long and in a blind test I did at my own photo club no one could tell the difference between the print with genuine canon ink and the own brand stuff.

Just possibly worth considering as it can reduce running costs significantly.

I use pigment ink rather than dye in my Canon Pro 300. I thought I wouldn't be able to tell the difference but with the right paper I was surprised. I use CP too, and they are good value for the most part.
