Hi,

I am looking to get a new monitor and have done a bit of research already.

When buying a monitor what should I prioritise resolution, refresh rate or TN/IPS?

I am seeing a lot of monitors which have one or two of the 3 I wanted but not the third. If I was on a budget what should I be looking to get first before the others?

I mainly just use the monitor for general use and games.

Current monitor is an old Acer S220HQL.

Thanks

What IS your budget? What are you using the monitor for? IPS is the best for colour reproduction, so any professional usage that requires that, i.e photography, graphic design etc. would really require an IPS panel.

If you're only gaming, it doesn't really matter, although you should be aware of the various drawbacks with monitor tech, although all monitors suffer to varying degrees.

£200 max.. Looking for at least 24" to 27".. Mainly gaming and general use.. Have an RX580 Nitro+ 8GB. Play most games on 1080p on Ultra but wasn't sure if I should be stepping up to 1440p.

1440p is a great upgrade, very noticeable, althought you won't manage it at £200. That's not very much and you are pretty much going to be limited to TN panels at that price point. With an AMD GPU it would allow you to go Freesync though.

This is worth a look;

There is also this IPS, but from reviews it's not a great example of it with iffy build quality and is also only 75Hz;

For gaming the MSI would be best.
