Next week I am getting sentenced for GBH - know I'll be going down but not sure for how long. Getting to me now big time and pretty much crapping it. See on other threads a few people on here know people who've been in. If you have any idea what it's really like or is it as easy as people say would be good to know.

End of next week I get sentenced - its for Section 20 which isn't the serious one so the worse I can get is 5 years - brief told me to expect 2-3. This happened a good while ago and I haven't been in any trouble since. I don't know what happened but I was drunk and lashed out and used a bottle on someone who was winding me up. It was a fight with another lad - nothing to do with women or children like somebody said.Never did anything like it before and won't do it again but it happened. Have a bit of a record but nothing too serious.

I'm 24 so I know I will get prison not young offenders. Going to court in London so don't know where I might end up when I get sent down. It's been hanging over me for nearly a year now and I think about this every day but loads more now.

Don't expect it to be easy - know people say it is but don't think they've been there if they say that. Think people talk crap about what its like .

Can't imagine being locked up for 23 hours in a cell and not being able to get out. I like being able to do my own thing and meet up with mates so think that'll take getting used to. Can look after myself OK - do a bit of boxing as well as the footie so am not too worried about that. Wouldn't mind being able to spend time in the gym if I get it.

I think it will be OK when I get used to it but just being new and not knowing what to expect or whos who just gets to me - don't want to stand out and look like a pushover.

Thanks for the link to that other forum btw

he will have to spend sometime in a cat b local until he is farmed out to cat c depending on risk assessments etc, all prisons now have the core day which means bang up from friday at 5 until monday morning with only exercise periods in between its cost cutting by the service cos its saves on staffing

Locked up all weekend. That would do my head in. How long do you have to do in the local place before I might get transferred to a Cat C - know they are better

keep your head down (not a pun)

choose your friends very carefully, lend no-one nothing, if you smoke stop,
and most importantly reflect on your life, and ensure you don't ever go back in

Why would I need to stop smoking - not banned is it? Thought evrybody would smoke with it being so boring

I think i would have died due to the wait, thinking about it every day. Its like you have already served a years sentence. Good luck with it, hope its not as bad as its sometimes made out.

Exactly - bad enough having things hanging over you. Been in court 4 times over this so far and sometimes just want to get it over with but now it's nearly time - just want it to go away but know it won't

I would agree with some posts in here that you can't just judge the OP (at first) cause he said he was getting done for GBH. Now the OP has given the reason for the GBH charge then he deserves what he gets. To bottle someone cause they are doing your head in and winding you up is a poor excuse, would it not have been easier to walk away from this person or leave?

In September 2000 I got in to a fight in my local town centre. 2 blokes were slapping a girl about, so I stepped in to try and calm things down, all seemed ok and the situation calmed and then the blokes turned on me, the girl walked away and I was left with the blokes provoking me. This went on for 10 mins, both lads taking off their coats and jumpers getting themselves ready while I just stood there. After about 12 mins of pure abuse off these blokes I went alpha on them and got them both to the floor and then police came and all of us were arrested. The whole situation was caught on CCTV. I was charged with ABH and Affray it went to magistrates court but it was passed on to the Crown Court as they decided they couldn't give me a tough enough sentence. This was totally out of character for me and have never done anything like it before but one bloke slapping a woman about is bad enough let alone 2!!! Anyway it got to crown court and the judge could see how I had got myself in to the situation but clearly said that the way I dealt with it was wrong and that there were other options. In the end I was given a 2 year suspended sentence and a fine and that was it! He said I was very very lucky and got this sentence by the skin of my teeth.

It's wrong to judge people on a tiny little detail once you get the bigger picture you should then make your assumptions.

To the OP - you may get lucky you may not only time will tell.

At leat you have an idea of what can happen. I know what i did was wrong but there's always stuff that leads up to it but nobody wants to look at that. I expect to go down and am trying to get ready for that - just a week to go for me.

Were you expecting to get sent down? It really does wreck your head
