Strange question hear; i used a program called advanced privacy sweeper; i must have selected too many things to clean since it removed the programs that i placed in the start menu; not the recently opened but ones i added manually; now i cannot seem to drag and drop short cuts there; any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Is it possible the program has disabled context menus and drag and drop in start menu properties ?

Yes i have restarted / shutdown etc. I don't want to use restore now since i have done stuff since then

What is the context menus and how do i re-enable that. I have made sure that the option "enable context menus and dragging and dropping" is ticked but i still cannot copy shortcuts to the start menu

Yeah that's what I was talking about, It was the obvious choice but sadly didn't work.

System restore literally takes minutes.

then it goes the the dock; the tasks at the bottom but i want some shortcuts to the start menu; as in clicking on start/windows then just above the "all programs" and search bars

The dock? The task bar? You sure you're not selecting pin to task bar? :P

Sorry if i have not explained it well; i can pin shortcuts to the task bar; as in the bottom of the screen; either by drag and drop pr by right click; pin to taskbar. However i want some shortcuts on the start menu (not sure if its called that) you know where your most recently opened programs would be. If i right click there is no option for pin to start menu; also if i try to drag and drop there is a red "restricted" sign.

indeed; so does anyone know a solution?

I guess i could reinstall windows; not full just a repair. If i did this would all my programs/settings be the same?

To sum up: this piece of crapware has borked your windows installation. You need to reinstall and use better software in future.

Before you do/try anything, backup everything you need just in case...
Doing a repair is going to do what, fubar the install even more, its borked as it is by the sounds of it.

I've never had a repair install work properly. Much better to back up and clean install. Plus this will get rid of whatever it is you were trying to keep private :p
