When you buy a new car, you get the new keeper slip. Can you use this to put a private plate on a car, or do you have to wait for the full v5c to come back?

Thanks
Sukh

If you've got a DVLA office near you, go in and do it. I went to the one in Manchester and I was able to put my private plate on straight away, no waiting around for forms to come back from Swansea!

Shame they're closing DVLA offices, much more handy than having to post things off!

I think they have stopped the walk in service, I know I transferred a plate in Wimbledon and Truro and both times I had to wait to receive the documents through the post.

having said that everything arrive in about 3 days

Thanks guys - will try to put the plate on the car on the way back.
Pics to follow if I do buy it.

Turns out that DVLA offices arent open on weekends :D
Will try again Monday.

So a few more details and thoughts:

I've moved from a late model 350z (manual) to the XK because I fancied an auto as most of my driving is around town and in rush hour traffic.

Yep it is a paddle shift 6 speed auto, a ZF unit I understand. Very good in full auto around town, the torque of the v8 makes it a very comfortable place to be. Obviously very different to a manual Z, but to honest for the driving I do daily it much better suited.

Again a very different place to be inside, all leather dash, centre console and transmission tunnel/ door cards (compared to Jap plastic on the Z). The Sat Nav takes full postcode which after the Nissan unit is a joy. Doesn't have MP3/ ipod connectivity as standard which is a bit disappointing - it was a £350 option i believe. Bluetooth is a bit shocking, but I never usually connect, and it can't play music bia BT so not the best.
The rear seats are all but useless for anything other than extra storage space, will probably look at taking them out and putting in storage nets, could be good to hold the golf trolley.

Handling is again obviously very different, it is a very strong GT car compared to the Z. I missed being able to chuck it around roundabouts etc this morning and it as expected it wallows around. Road noise is superb compared to the Z which wasn't very quiet due to the open boot design.

Will update with thoughts after a couple of weeks.

.

Get some decent tyres on, put it in dynamic mode and you can chuck it around very well, if it wallows in dynamic you might want to get the suspension checked over

It has good tyres, I meant wallows in comparison to a 350z. :)

It doesn't have CATS so can't adjust any of the suspension? Unless there are some buttons I haven't found.

not siure what CATS is, the dynamic button is the one iwth the checquered flag, re decent tyres what you may think are good may not be, mine had Dunlops on and when I changed ti Michelins the handling was transformed
