Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

Incredible stage that One. What a rise by Yates and to some extent chaves and konig sneaking off the front. Contador just doesn't look like he has it this year. But suspect he'll try something today.

Quintana probably quite disheartened after sky worked so hard yesterday and froome managed contain him with relative ease. Suspect sky will of got a rollicking for missing that break yesterday, and won't be making the same,we mistake again. Short one today,if the spice things up.

Contador is still an amazing rider, but I think his race is run. Its been a trend for a while now, he keeps with the leaders for a bit then ultimately gets dropped. I suppose it doesn't help that he doesn't get a tremendous amount of support like Team Sky provide to Froome or Movistar to Quintana. Unless something odd happens, I can't see him winning a grand tour again.

Wtf are sky playing at? Caught napping again and let the red jersey go up the road and pulling time on them. Froome should have been glued to Quintana's wheel, now he's pretty much isolated with the rest of the team 3 mins behind him

Well they executed that plan to the best they could between tinkoff and movistar, left froome isolated and with nothing to counter with.

should have enough time with some to spare now for the TT as long as quintana doesnt fall off should win.

hopefully the other in 3-4 dont have crap TT and can still push for 2nd

Sky finally cracked. Cracker of a stage and deserved win from Brambilla after making the break happen. Great ride from Quintana and Contador too with the latter still not quite having the legs.

Absolutley, these short stages in the last couple of years really do provide excitement, but do need to be combined with some brutes before/after. I'm really intrigued to see what happens for the rest of the week. even though only a couple of summits left, could be some interesting riding/tactics from all still in play.

I wonder if Sky will attack today, knowing most of their squad would have been rested yesterday as they cruised in after the cut off. I bet it would kick off if they did with complaints about cheating

take the time difference between the grupetto and the lead group and add it to any of the team member who were in the breakaway group/s

There would be no incentive for anybody to attack at all. Everyone in the race would end up on the same time and the GC would be decided by bonus seconds between the sprinters.

the leaders would be screwed by the team not keeping up then.

That's exactly what happened to Froome yesterday :p

they could attack still. Its only a deterrent for those like yesterday who thought sod the cut off time were having a rest. They would have to still make the cut off or the other team member lose out.

Every single rider in the front group had a team mate in that group. As is the case 99% of the time.
If you're going to penalise every single rider in the front group, there would be no point making any effort to get into the front group.

but it would make no difference as long as the grupetto arrive within the time limit

But still every single rider in the front group is going to have a team mate in the groupetto so either everyone is the front group is going to get penalised with the time of the groupetto or nobody is.

It would actually have the reverse effect IMO and make the groupetto come outside the time limit more often. As soon as one of the main GC riders attacks from the front group, all the other teams in the groupetto stop working to try and get everyone penalised and nullify any time gaps.
