Pro Cycling Discussion Thread 2015

froome unlikely to continue..

"Knocked sideways into a barrier & stone wall today. Further scans in the morning but start unlikely as I can’t walk without crutches"

I am pretty certain Froome will withdraw, his body language on the bike was bad but seeing him simply trying to walk after the stage looked absolute agony, to the point where you really cannot see him overcoming something that painful and riding on now. Poor guy, looked such a silly little crash as well to cause all this for him :(

I think Aru may be a stupidly good shout right now overall in this.....

Yeah, such a stupid crash, so early in the stage, no doubt worried about the later events, and not being focused early enough, just like in last years tour. Although obviously didn't see the c rash.

And yeah Aru looking best placed unfortunately....

Good stage today, nice to see breakaway succeeding! Some good battles! Shame you couldn't see anything due to the fog. Can only imagine how cold it was up there.

Good to see dumoulin still in touch! Hopefully he'll sustain this for next 2 days!

He can lose up to three minutes and still be in for a shot at the podium. Think he's the real revelation of this Vuelta no matter what happens, can't wait to see what he does next. Hopefully with a team that actually supports him and doesn't leave him on the front working for Degenkolb on a stage when he should be saving energy in the bunch...

Would love to see him on a team like Lotto Jumbo in the future, he'd be such a great fit there based off this performance and he just happens to be Dutch as well  It is fate! :D

Tour of Britain: Great start to the race, looking forward to seeing this in person! I think it's definitely worth mentioning how amazing the breakaway was today. We're used to lower tier teams getting in the break for exposure, but these guys were out from the get go, challenging each other for all of the intermediate sprints and KOMs and still only got caught in the last 2km. That is some amazing riding considering the work Sky was doing on the front of the peloton. They were riding really well together too, a lot of mutual respect there. Pretty sure i saw a few bottles and gels being passed around between them.

Vuelta a Espana: Say what you like about the racing, the real winner of that stage was Spain. I've seen good views on bike races before, but today's stage just took my breath away. Thought i'd accidentally entered some sort of fantasy world. I mean look at this. Still, interesting racing, Katusha is a team i'm not 100% on board with but a lot of people seem to be happy for Rodriguez. Barring any accidents the next three days will decide this Vuelta. How much time Dumoulin loses tomorrow, how well he's able to rest and how much he's able to take back in the TT. Would like to see Chaves keep in the top five, which is doable considering that most everyone else up there is also terrible at time trials but it's all a bit up in the air at the minute. Which is probably a testament to the race organisers.

Without wanting to go too far OT - it is a lovely part of the world and generally very quiet. We spent a week near Potes last summer. Mainly walking - you could go all day and not see anyone. Went up to Lagos de Covadonga one day and wondered why so many cyclists were slogging up it. Didn't realise how famous it was till later

ToB highlights were bloody terrible, skipped about 80% of them.

Great win by Rodriguez, really would want him to win, been the nearly man for so so long!

Speaking of Lotto Jumbo, their DS at the Vuelta seems to have suggested that if Dumoulin takes red in the ITT then they'll help protect him for the rest of the race. Would be very interested to see how the UCI handles that, obviously you're not allowed to take assistance from another team but if you just see them riding on the front for no apparent reason can you really penalise them for it? Jumbo does kind of seem like the most sensible place for Dumoulin, but he's with Giant until 2017 so i guess we'll see if they can build a GC team around him before then.

ToB coming a couple of miles from me tomorrow. Gonna get a good spot at the top of a rise with a 90 degree turn so theyre slowing down nicely. Throw all your empty bottles here , i'll clear them up :D
