Hi There,

Looking to get a new motherboard and was looking at the ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI, however I noticed this when I was looking through the manual online.

When you use both PCIEX16(G5)_1 and PCIEX16(G5)_2, they will run at x8 each

PCIEX16(G5)_2 shares badwidth with M.2_2 slot. When M.2_2 is enabled, PCIEX16(G5)_1 will run x8, and PCIEX16(G5)_2 will run at x4.

I was wondering if someone could let me know if the 2nd half might be bad formatting, and that the case might only be the lower lane speed if both G5_2 and the M.2_2 are enabled or if M.2_2 is enabled regardless then it will still limit the first pci slot too?

I'm not looking to use the 2nd pci slot so if its just linked to both of them being enabled then that would be fine.

Thanks

This vid has timestamps that covers the M.2 slots and PCI-E configs of the board. Should help you clear up any confusion you are currently having.

For further clarification as at the time of the vid the creator disclaimed there was no block diagram available at the time he published the vid.

So, here's what actually happens:

Plugging a drive into the M.2_2 slot will reduce the top PCI-E slot to 8x. Any other slots remaining (M.2_1, M.2_3 and M.2_4) will not eat into the Gen 5 lanes on the top PCI-E slot while populated..
So just using the top PCI-E slot and (up to) 3 NVME drives (as long as you don't populate the M.2_2 slot) will not affect the speed of the top PCI-E slot.
