Prob after upgrade...

Hi all.

I seem to have a slight problem after an upgrade.

Just yesterday I got my new hardware... an ASUS M3A78 Pro mobo, a CoolerMaster 620w Real Power M620 PSU, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000 CPU and 4gb OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM.

Managed to get it all in, connected up correctly and went to boot up.

Everything comes on ok... all fans are turning... green light on the mobo... all seems well in that way but I`m getting no beeps from the pc and no display on the monitor. The monitor is working fine as I`m using it now hooked up to my old pc.

When I push the power button on the front of the upgraded pc it all starts up fine as I say but no beeps and no display...

I`ve checked all the leads etc and all seem to be connected up fine and also checked the GTS was seated correctly and it seems to fine also.

I really hope it`s not a problem with the GTS (Geeforce 8800GTS) as I`ve just spent a whack on all the above but I am starting to sweat a bit now...

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Will check what the onboard is telling me, shouldv`e thought about that.

How do you mean you left the 12v rail unplugged? How would I check I`ve not done the same? Sorry still a bit new to all this.

thats the power connector to your graphics card. Though it's worth checking you have all the power connections connected including the 4 pin cpu is plugged in as this would often cause your problem

Well the connector to the graphics card is connected... not so sure what you mean by the 4 pin cpu though.

If you look to the top left of your CPU between it and the I/O ports you will see a 4 pin input on the board right next to a screw hole. That needs to have the correct power lead plugged in.

Ahh right got you now... it`s the 4 pin ATX power connector yeh?

That`s connected up too...

P4 thats the name of the damn socket. Couldn't remember it for the life of me earlier. Have you tried a BIOS reset?
Unplug all the hard drives and optical drives and your gfx card (looks like you can run of onboard) and see if it boots then.

No not tried Bios reset but it`s on the list of things to try for sure but down the list a bit...

Typical... I`ve gotta go out for a while now but I`ll be back on later if you, or any of the others have any more suggestions please let me know.

Ok... update

After trying various things like changing leads etc I tried to boot up after removing one stick of RAM (so I`d be running on 2gb instead of 4gb) and it booted...

So at least the GTS and all the new parts seem to be working with the possible exception of a stick of RAM but will swap them over to check that too.
