Probably a really stupid question but..

I have 6 pin and 6+2 pin power connectors on my psu. Is the 6+2 pin an 8 pin power lead thats required by video cards?

Everything just used molex connectors last time i built a computer

Most of the ATI cards use 6 pin connectors only but the Nvidia top end cards use a 6 pin and an 8 pin power connector.

The 6+2 pin is the same as an 8 pin yes. Most PSU's come with the 6+2 instead of a full 8 Pin so that you can also attach it to cards that only need 6 pin connectors.
