• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Probably a silly question but...

Do the dual core A64 socket 939 processors work in all socket 939 motherboards? or do you require a special motherboard which supports dual core processors?

Asus A8V

Had a quick look on the ASUS webby and it does mention being able to use Dual Core CPUs so I can only assume it should work :|

Yep just get a newer BIOS if yours is rather dated. Sometimes it won't boot with a new revision or model of cpu, had this problem with a bunch of AV8 (Abit) boards that i had for a client order, all the cpus i ordered were Winchester 3200+ and they would'nt boot, had to use a 3500+ Newcastle to flash to a new BIOS to get things working. With my A8N Sli it had a rather old BIOS and my 165 was recognized as an AMD Clawhammer family with no dual core :D BIOS flash sorted that out, so it can vary in its behaviour whether it'll even boot or not.

Copied this from asus website :

- Supports AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64FX/Athlon 64 X2/Athlon 64
- Supports AMD 64 architecture that enables simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing
- Supports AMD Cool 'n' Quiet™ Technology

Just update the latest bios and you should be fine.
