Probably a stupid question...

Hi all,

I've been getting some water ingress in my tail lights and want to remove them, dry them out and try and reseal them, which realistically might take a day or two.

However my car is always parked in the public street outside my flat, is there any legal issue with having the lights out (and therefore unfit to drive) whilst it's parked?

hummmmm, I would hazard a guess and say so long as you aren't driving it without the lights then it should be fine as they won't be used/required. :)

So some googling seems to agree that it's OK as long as it isn't for business or personal gain and that it doesn't cause an annoyance to people living nearby. And I can't see anything in the Edinburgh resident parking permit T&Cs about vehicle condition.

Just got to hope some little scrote doesn't take a **** in the hole or anything.

ahh yea that's a good thought, some residential parking areas (probably most) state that you aren't allowed to carry out repair work in the parking. though, tbh I think bulbs would be fine ;) think that is more directed towards people putting their car up on jacks and tinker about underneath where things are potentially dangerous.

Good Luck :D and hope no one takes advantage of the car ;)

There's a land rover around my way that takes his headlights out everyday and I mean the whole headlamp unit....I'm guessing so scrotes don't steal them lol

One thing to be careful of with rear lights is that they usually contain reflectors that make the car much more obvious to passing traffic in the dark. I wouldn't risk leaving it overnight with them missing if your parked in an exposed position such as on the end of a line of cars
