Probably a stupid question...

I'm trying to overclock a 4670K on an Asrock B85M Pro4 motherboard using an older BIOS that still had the non-Z OC functionality. Note I'm not using the auto overclock settings.

I can't seem to get past 4.3Ghz at 1.23v without it becoming unstable. Is the motherboard likely playing a part in this poor performance? I should have gone for Z87 board I know, but I originally wasn't planning on getting a K processor.

RAM is already set to 1600 speeds. I've got it stable now at 4.4GHz at 1.25v but that doesn't seem that good to me. It's either a rubbish chip or the motherboard.

Is that Devils Canyon / Haswell Refresh ? if so, they were a flop just like the original Haswell, I had 2, one topped out at 4.3ghz and the other at 4.4ghz, they were rubbish overclockers, ended up de-lidding both with a wooden block and a hammer, then changing the TIM just to try and get the temps down a bit.
