Probably why I won't ride a crotch rocket

I wouldn't ride a bike.

I'd either be too afraid of pushing the bike in fear of falling off or I would go to fast and probably get killed.

I'll stick to my car thanks :)

Time and a place for going balls out all the time and it aint on the road, and now one of them has paid the ultimate price, RIP though.

the chase ZX10 with cam was just rolling on throttle in 6th so not 'gunning it'...

the accident ended up happening when car in front didn't spot bike overtaking, though bike was doing 90mph+ at that point so it's not surprising I guess.

*&^% happens, but not a reason not to ride a bike, cage drivers die everyday also :(

As a rider, I wouldn't wish the aftermath of a scene on anyone. Overtaking at those speeds is not the way to go about a fun ride out tbh.

When I'm driving cross country, I see bikers driving like utter idiots. They appear to have no concern for the fact they near-deafen motorists in one ear when they hurtle past, 3 feet from my open window at 100mph.

Plus, it can be rather disconcerting driving along a twisty road beside a loch to be faced with a stream of bikers on the wrong side of the road overtaking when they really shouldn't be.

but even a car overtaking will be 3 feet from your open window so whats the difference ?, a loud bike is a good idea.. gets you heard and makes it safer.

the difference is the bike can get past much faster, is a faster ovetake safer ?, less time exposed to possible oncoming traffic etc etc...

imo a bike overtaking is safer than a car doing the same, though would depend on the rider / driver also, these guys were asking for trouble with speeds reached

I know they've just lost someone close, but come on?

The guy drove like an idiot, put his own life in danger and (more importantly) those of everyone else on the road. As harsh as it is, he got what he deserved. It's just a shame for the people who had to witness the accident, I can imagine some of them are pretty traumatised, and the police who had to collect parts of him from the road.

What a lovely way to kick off my Friday morning.

As sad as it is, when you are driving like that you are taking your live into your own hands.

Trust me, there is a huge difference between a bike overtaking and a car. The majority of bikers I see drive recklessly - putting me and other safe road users at risk. And on the specific road I'm talking about (Dundee to Oban, essentially directly across Scotland) I've never been overtaken by anything other than an emergency vehicle or a motorbike.

Thats just not true.. maybe they appear reckless as your scared of bikes ?, or maybe your traveling very very VERY slow.

The majority of riders, exactly the same as any other transport, drive ok.

I admit it's more tempting to pin throttle on a bike as it's a real buzz, but done in the right place it's ok and has it's place same as any other performance vehicle

I should have quantified that with "the majority of bike riders I see on the Dundee to Oban roads" are driving recklessly.

I'm certainly not scared of bikes (although I'd never ride one), nor do I drive slowly.

There are road users out there who just dislike being overtaken, even if you can see for 10 miles either way and they are driving 20mph under the speed limit. It's these kind of people who give out the "All bikers are dangerous" rubbish.

Overtaking in oncoming traffic at those speeds is silly, no doubt it was an accident waiting to happen. Most of the bikers on my usual roads are pretty sensible and don't do any heroic 10 car overtakes in oncoming traffic. I've done more silly overtakes in my car and felt lucky to have not crashed than I ever did on the bike. On the bike I could literally nip round a vehicle without any drama.

When you ride a bike, it feels much better to be out in open road. Not to ride faster, just to have less cars and objects around you to reduce the stress of keeping observation on other vehicles as 80% of the time they are not aware of you at all. I get countless thumbs up from bikes as I move over when I see them approach and use my experience to make sure its safe for them to pass, otherwise I'll keep my road position if it isn't safe.

Nearly crashed into a biker on my way home from work last night. Was going round a smallish roundabout just about to take the exit, when from out of nowhere a bike came hurtling past me, luckily I happened to be close to the curb and staying there otherwise I could have ended clipping him, would not have been pretty. The moron then opened the bike up and ended up doing at least 70mph on a 50mph road overtaking constatly. If he had crashe I would have liked to see it sa he wasn't wearing leathers, just his normal work clothes and a helmet.

I guess it's a local 'bike hoon' road..

It's always gonna be a problem though, the large percentage of bikes perform like supercars.. if the roads were suddenly full of supercar drivers it would be a similar story I guess.

People buy fast cars / bikes for kicks.. they are always gonna get in some adrenlin fueled moment of madness at some point. Strapping a cam to bike only fuels it further..
