Ok so a friend of mine who was on a probation period at his new job was asked to leave today (i.e. the company didn't want to keep him on).

Is this the same as being fired? When he applies for a new job what would he need to say regarding his previous job? It wasn't for gross misconduct or anything like that, he just didn't meet the job requirements!

Cheers.

I was about to say, this is motors. :p

I'd have thought seeing as it was the probation period it doesn't count as being fired, but I guess it will just depend on the view of potential employers.

whats his price range?
diesel?

/off topic, i would think that what he does depends how long he was there, and what he thinks made them get rid of him

/on topic, mondeo TBH as mentioned :)

Lol. Mad buggers in that there motors forum . . .

Now its in GD, you can actually have some advice.
No, he hasnt been fired, all you have to say, is that it was a temporary position (As it was).

He was there for only a few months. About 3 months. Think it was all down to one of those customer exit survey/mystery shopper type things and he didn't do too well, it said he was moody and untidy and after that they 'let him go'.

Apart from that he seemed to be doing ok.

so he was sacked them :p

i would suggest that he says its a temp job, his only issue is if they ask for reference..

Say it was temp and don't put them as a reference.

I know when we end peoples probation's at work it has to be for a DAM good reason, usually for the employee not performing to standard.

I'm not saying this is the case with your friend, we also end probation periods for poor availability amongst other things.

Fact is, unfortunatly having your probation ended (Unless you know the reason yourself) is not usually a good thing.

EDIT: To answer your orginal question, No, its not the same as being fired. :)

If you're not going to put them as a reference, don't mention the job at all. Most employers demand a reference from your previous employment listed on your CV. They'll be very suspicious if you don't list them.
