Ok,

Probationary period is 24 months right? 6 points on your license in the first 2 years and you have to resit your test. So say, in the 23rd month you were caught speeding twice. Now it takes something like 2 weeks to get the letter to you. And then you have 28 days to accept it. And then they send you an offer and all that. So by the time you get the points actually put on your license you are way past your probationary period - say 28 months! Would they still ban you because you sped within the first 2 years, or does it only go from when the points are added to your license??

Cheers!

3 Years and 6 points isnt it?

Points will be added on the day of the offence, police keep a log of everyone they stop and caution for an offence.

Yeah, 2 years, and the points would be for the date of the speeding occurence, so loss of license...someone been naughty? :p

:p No, I've just got 3 points and wondering whether I've got to be extra careful now! My probationary period is up in September!

Extra extra careful.

Imagine having to do that test again

Although someone I know lost their license from 2 x 3 points from speeding cameras, in the same day. It was the same camera :p

Hah! More like stupidity! If you know you can only get 6 points why risk it?

Ok, well I THINK it's going to be 3 points! It's 50 in a 30! Is that a fixed penalty or summons?

I personally would not hold your breath hoping for a fixed penalty. 50 in a 30 would be considered very excessive as its near enough twice the limit.

You'll be very lucky to get away with a fixed penalty indeed and to be fair I dont think you should.

Reading your post again, am I right in thinking infact that your sweating another speeding offense just near the end of your probationary period and not asking hypothetically?

If so what did you do? After all 50 in a 30 is stupid and its hard to miss 30 signs.

All depends on the road, as I'm sure you know. There's a particular 30 limit near me that is a 30 limit due to it technically being a residential road. In reality the houses are so far from it, and it has such good visability, most people trundle along it at about 50, the speed they were doing in the silly 40 zone that becomes the silly 30 zone.

Erm.......no! I have one offence just occurred and, LIKE I SAID, was asking hypothetically about getting another. I'm not 'sweating' any other speeding offence thank you.

Just because you dont agree with it does not make it ok to do 50 in a 30 wether or not its 'safe' to go faster. 30 is 30 and thats it. 50 in a 30 is excessive end of. Location of the houses or primary schools etc, have nothing to do with it. If the roads a 30 and you think it should be raised then lobby the local authority. After all plenty of residents have been successful in geting 20 zones why not try and get other areas reclassified upwards?

If the OP has been nicked doing 30 in 50 then its his fault and especially as he knew he was in his probationary period.

Feeling the love yet ;)?

Magistrates' Guidelines for Speeding Offences
The Magistrates Court Association has set down sentencing guidelines for speeding charges. They're as follows (or see the table);a full list of the Penalty Points for motoring offences, and a description of the "totting up" procedure is available at this link.

For travelling up to 10 mph faster than a 20-30 mph speed limit or up to 15 mph faster than a 40-50 mph speed limit or up to 20 mph faster than a 60-70 mph speed limit the guidelines suggest that the magistrates endorse with 3 penalty points.
For travelling between 11 and 20 mph faster than a 20-30 mph speed limit, or between 16 and 25 mph faster than a 40-50 mph speed limit, or between 21 and 30 mph faster than a 60-70 mph speed limit, the guidelines suggest that the magistrates endorse with 4 or 5 penalty points.
For travelling between 21 and 30 mph faster than a 20-30 mph speed limit, or between 26 and 35 mph faster than a 40-50 mph speed limit, or between 31 and 40 mph faster than a 60-70 mph speed limit, the guidelines suggest that the magistrates endorse with 6 penalty points or consider disqualification for between 14 and 56 days.
You should note that these are only guidelines and the magistrates can deviate from them.

As far as fines are concerned speeding carries a maximum fine of £1,000 (£2,500 if speeding on a motorway). The guidelines also lay down fines which are very much dependant upon your income.

This is summarised in the following table:

Not going to be going to any hearing if I am summonsed. Never heard of guilty by post?

You reckon that will help? You could be given a ban if you dont turn up as the magistrates may think you dont take it seriously enough and they will know your a new driver etc.......
