hi there,

I have a Gigabyte DS3 mobo, e6400, 2 gigs corsiar ram etc. I have a strange problem with my sound?

sometimes when i start the machine instead of the windows bing bong music i just get a bleep from the system speaker. any of the windows error sounds also create this beep. Skype shouts at me saying there is no sound device installed and i have no volume options. yet if i play music in media player it comes out of the speakers just fine (all be it without any volume control). this is realy confusing me. the onboard sound is working fine for music and games, but skype doesnt pick up a sound device and neither does windows? any clues?

Cheers

i used the ones that came with the disk originally, then i used the ones from the gigabyte website. they have been fine for a month or so and now they have started to have this problem. ive just downloaded a chipset utility from the intel site and ran that, restarted, and its now working...

ill see how long it goes for. its strange, earlier i started my pc, got the windows login sound, skype started with its whoose effect, an error message popped up about my printer with the usual dong, but then after a little use it was back to using the system speaker for errors, and when i shutdown i got a system beep instead of the shutdown music. strange.....

ok, im stuck now. ive downloaded the drivers from the Gigabyte site, installed them, but it doesnt allow me to update the drivers in computer management. says that windows could not find a better match. its happening almost all the time now, i start windows, get a beep, skype says there is no device for audio recording, and i have no vilume control (it stays fixed at whatever it was last time it worked). but if i play a game or some music or a film, it works fine. this is realy confusing now....
