I've just bought a corsiar Force 3 60gb SSD and I've installed this on my Asus p8Z68-V Pro motherboard, I can't seem to get XP installed, it fails after the format.

I have set the Sata config to IDE and the Marvel controller to IDE.

I keep getting an error;
an error has occured while setup was updating the partition information on 57240 MB Disk 0 at ID 1 on Bus 0 on atapi [MBR] setup can not continue

and I also get another error windows can not format a partition on disk 0 the error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation error code 0x80070057.

I need to install xp as I have a window 7 upgrade disk, and i need to use my xp licence.

I'm not sure what the procedure is to get this working, if some one could please run through the process, otherwise i'd have to buy the full retail version, and i would have wasted the £££'s on the upgrade.

Cheers.

I've already tried that, I have the OEM upgrade it will not allow me to do a custom only upgrade from exisiting system, hence why i need XP on..

Thanks, i've eventually solved this. No XP will not run regardless, I've tried loading the drivers at F6 prompt but they don't work absolutely no ACHI support even with SP3 slipstreamed.

I found out that you can do a clean install provided you have a legit copy of XP, or Vista. So i installed a custom install, then installed the drivers including the AHCI, chipset and LAN, ran all teh updates so 2 reboots later I was able to register my DVD key, so i have a legal copy.

No the OEM disk for W7 64bit did not have SP1 slipstreamed into it.

Set your BIOS to AHCI if running SSD's or SATA drive with NCQ.
Set the BIOS to boot to DVD/CD first
Boot with the Windows install disk
When prompted select the Custom install
It will tell you which disk/drive/partition you want to install the OS onto, on that screen there is an option to load driver, select this, insert your motherboard drive disk and navigate to the RAID section and find the suitable driver for the host controller.
Re-insert the OS disk and select next to install.
Once the OS has installed, run the driver disk to install the chipset, lan, wifi, etc.. reboot the PC once these have been installed.
Install the updates, restart
Install remaining updates if any..
Run the activation wizard from my computer properties
Enter your licence key

for legal rasons you must have previously owned a previous version of XP or Vista..

Hope this helps.
