hi im new to the forum and was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on my problem.
right this is my specs

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit + VISTA 32 BIT
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM DDR3
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (5750) 1GB DDR5
Monitor Name: Acer LCD Monitor AL1916w
Ralink RT61 Turbo Wireless LAN Card
mother board: ASUS P8H61-MLE
PSU 400W
HARD DRIVES: 2 X 640GB SEAGATE

the pc was built 1 year ago by what i thought was a good pc place, Right im new to all this so, when i play battlefield / black ops / mw3 after 1-3 minutes in game the screen goes black and theres a loud buzzing from the speakers and i cant enter task manager and have to turn it off with the main power button as nothing else will work, ive had this problem now for a few months but the pc is about a year old it did it now and again when battlefield first came out but it is now unplayable so has got worse, i ran furmark and the gpu was running at 75oC so bought a new case a powercool dominator and re-cased it, the gpu now runs at 64oC when running furmark, but while running furmark it has never cut out,
now im no pc expert but am learning and the only thing i can think is that the psu is slightly underpowered so will possibly be ordering a 750w, but would this cause the black screen and buzzing ?

help please im pulling my hair out
thanks
dave

Yea your PSU is underpowered(ish) for the job. A 750W is WAY TO MUCH for your system. I would opt for a 600 like the Corsiar Builder Series CX600.

80 plus power means hardly any energy is wasted, less heat output and its a CORSAIR!

I would check your memory etc by swap testing it and see if the memory is the problem, or by booting up windows, going to start, typing in Memory and running the Memory test MS give you with windows.

CHKDSK your HDD by start > CMD > chkdsk /f > the Y > restart your system > DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING > and let windows check and repair any possible HDD errors.

As to your GPU being hot, it will be under BF3! I have a 5770 and I hit 75/80C when playing BF3... its natural for any GPU to be that hot when running that game! The 5750 isn't really equipped for BF3... you need an upgrade!

I think you made a slight mistake with the CPU mind. The i5-2300 is a good cpu but I would have spent the extra 20/30 quid on the i5-2500k and clocked it fairly easily. The system would be a lot faster!

Hope this helps!

What brand is the PSU? If it's a cheapo one, that would be the first thing to be suspicious of. Unfortunately the only way to test is to try a different PSU.

Test the memory with Memtest86 before you start swapping DIMM's around or sourcing a new PSU. You need to download it and create a bootable disc. Let it run for a few hours.

Your graphics card isn't overheating. They run hotter than CPU's and your load temperatures are nothing to worry about.

ok thanks for the replies
chkdsk is showing no bad sectors if thats what im supposed to be looking for ?
the windows mem test was all ok so was the memtest86
so what is the next step? i

i would change PSU to a 600W and also upgrade you GFX crard since you wantng to play BF3 as already stated your card isnt good enough for that game you could also think of crossfiring a second one to see of that will help

to make sure it is isnt your memory i would also run Memtest

He's run Memtest. A 5850 is still a decent card if you don't demand highest settings on everything. 400W is plenty for a single 5850 as long as the PSU is actually putting that much out. Spot on apart from that :p

right im running bf3 in low settings which seem really clear considering its in low settings, the resolution is set at 1440x900
managed to play 1 full game in a server with 6 players, so tried it in a full server and result was a minute of gameplay then crash, just going to reboot now and run it on my other hard drive with vista installed and try it on black ops to see how that goes
oh and the card is a 5750
on a few occasions ive had it crash while playing texas holdem poker on facebook

Ok misread it. A 5750 is a bit weak but it still shouldn't be black screening. Have you tried installing different drivers for the graphics card?

Did not see that, however that may well be an old ATX 1.3 design or older as well and not suited to the fairly high 12v line power design of todays pcs, i.e most of that 400w is 3.3 and 5v.

I agree that both PSU's are a bit rubbish. How much power does a 5750 draw though? It can't be much. Also it doesn't crash in Furmark which is about the most power intensive thing you can run.

(I still don't know what the problem actually is though :p)

right when running on the hard drive with windows 7 bf3 crashes in under a minute now with all settings on low
when running on the hard drive with windows vista i can nearly manage a full game on bf3 and even crashes on black ops ( not tried black ops recently on w7 hdd but it did the same lat time i tried)
both psu's are doing the same thing
after reading the comments its seams that my 5750 is drawing too much from my psu's, which my old fujitstsu used to run black ops but that means nothing as it could be the graphics card is pulling too much is the 5750 really that demanding, the fujitsu used to run the nvidia 9600gt
this pc was a replacement for my old fujitsu through the insurance as my fujitsu was dropped causing too much damage to consider it a viable repair
just to sum it up when this rig was new i played bf3 for 40+ hours with no issues then it started crashing so blamed bf3 for it but went back to it to sort the problem only to find out that its happening on all my pc games, i also have an xbox so went to that for gaming but fps arent the same on an xbox
so thinking now that if i get a cheap psu (but not an alpine) maybe a evo labs just to try and see if it sorts the problem then if it does upgrade to a corsair if it doesnt then a graphics upgrade and back to nvidia
its just doing my head in
but on a + side ive learnt more about pc building in the last month than i thought i ever would lol
