Greetings all!

I'm currently having a few major problems with my Samsung P28 laptop. Basically, I got home from a meeting the other day only to find when I turn my laptop on, it didn't produce anything on the screen at all. However, other times it worked just fine!

When it does work, I get into XP, and all is well for about 5 minutes, when the laptop suddenly freezes completely.

Now when I try to turn it on, nothing comes up on the screen at all, though I can hear the hard drive and case fan whirring up, and all the lights come on as normal.

Has anyone got any ideas as to the problem?

Regards,
Rich

Sounds like it may be hard drive, when it heats up it doesn't work. When this happen (to desktops) people tend to take the offending hard drive out of their PC, put it in the freezer for a while, when suitably cold (probably icy, lol) they quickly transfer the valuable data off the the drive. Then just replace hard drive. This might be a bit more problematic in a laptop but they are usually fairly removable.

Does it work for normal periods of time at all? I'd replace the drive anyway and see if it corrects the problem.

Thanks!

Nope, the laptop will load for about 5 minutes, and then everything on the screen just freezes.

Just one query... would an overheating hard drive stop the BIOS being shown on the screen?

Good tip with the freezer, I might have to try it! :)

I'm not 100%, but I don't think it should stop the BIOS loading. But the 5 minute working time makes me think it's a HD problem.
