Right, got my PC and 360 connected to my router, installed windows media connect (it didn't ask for the security number thing the 360 gave me) and all seems ok, but neither machine can 'see' the other

any ideas?

Windows Media Connect is used for access Pictures and Music from those headings in the Xbox dashboard.

If you pressed the Windows Media Center (green logo) heading then it will be looking for a Windows Media Center PC.

Could this be your problem?

no thats not it...i've done both...nothing works. strange really, all the software seems to be okay, but they just can't connect to one another

OK... The Xbox 360 only gives you a security code for the Windows Media Center connection. So we can ignore that.

Have you granted your Xbox 360 access to your PC? When you open WMC properties have you got the word "Allowed" in green for the Xbox 360? Have you set up sharing of any folders and granted access to the Xbox 360?

yeah, which is why i'm confused...with all that i can see it should work, the 360 is allowed, i've shared my music and images with it...but it doesn't work

yeah, done all the easy bits like that thousands of times, i just can't see the computer...no problems getting on XBL and downloading content for the marketplace, but so far no connectivity to my PC. :(

So that suggests a problem with Windows itself. Have you got "Windows Media Connect" as an exception in your Windows Firewall settings?

ive got the same problem, everything seems fine, no firewall running but it cant find the PC.

It worked fine when i had MCE but since a format and i put on XP it wont find it for music goodness :(

i've not got the windows firewall on, just zone alarm to avoid complications.
my router (netgear, wired) shouldn't block it either. which is why i really can't figure it out - i even had a mate look at it whos got his 360 working with PC fine.

I had the same problem, (kinda) and I could not enable sharing... because of a service I had disabled...

Have you gone to the router and tried turning OFF the built in firewall? maybe tried turning on UPnP?

right, well i've finally got somewhere...i dissabled NAT on my router, rebooted, then tried to connect from my xbox. the 360 can now connect to the computer and i've re-enabled NAT...if the connection will stay after the xbox reboots too i don't know...but whilst its connected i don't want to bother trying that!
does anybody know how i can get it to work with NAT enabled if it stops working seen as though it obviously works with NAT disabled?

should i be able to connect to the 360 from the PC? if so how? cose atm i can't.

There are a few Windows Services that have to be set to Automatic. You may have set these to disable a while back when tweaking Windows, I know I did.

The 2 services are:

Universal Plug and Play Device Host
HTTP SSL

Hope this helps!

I think it needs to posted in the sticky thread as its a common problem when trying to get the Windows Media Connect software working.

A lot of us here probably tweaked Windows to death and disabled a load of services that we didn't need at the time.
